Cath & Eshref

We had the chance to have a look inside the interior of tv-host Cath Luyten and her boyfriend Eshref Reybrouck, film & tv director (Cordon, Wat Als, Undercover, Cheyenne & Lola). When we entered this authentic townhouse, we immediately wondered why anyone would ever want to move out of this perfect combo of high ceilings, natural light and a top collection of design items. After living close to Het Groen Kwartier in Antwerp for a few years, they start a new adventure in a newly renovated house in Burcht. Their new home has a more horizontal lay-out and less stairs, which is definitely welcome with an enthusiastic crawler on the way, ready to join their lovely family.

Even though this mother and father-to-be are genuine city dwellers, living in Burcht would mean waking up with views over the river Scheldt, which irreversibly won them over. The couple might be leaving Antwerp behind them, their furniture is definitely moving along. “We are attached to each and every piece we bought.” Not too hard to understand when you see their highly sought after collection pieces like the ‘Heart’ dining set by Hans Wegner or Eshref’s favourite, an Eames lounge chair. Even the piano will get its own special place in their new home. “I played the piano as a child, but lacked a true passion for the instrument at that time”, says Cath. “Eshref, on the other hand, taught himself to play the piano, and I hope he will teach me one day”.

After a long journey, Cath and Eshref successfully created their very own, personal interior style. Their current house in Berchem is decorated in an elegant yet homely manner with a sideboard by Gunni Omann and a wall unit by Poul Cadovius from Nome sided by other vintage treasures and flowers. The marks from a previous life on these vintage pieces is what Cath and her boyfriend love about vintage design. “They make you wonder what kind of home these pieces came from. Which heated discussions were held at this vintage table about sixty years ago?” We have to agree with the duo on this one: it’s wonderful to let your imagination run wild.
